Facebook

Four years ago I joined Facebook. I was the hot new thing and a great way to keep in touch with friends from high school and to make new friends with people at Marquette.
Little did I know that four years later I would have friend requests from my aunt, step-mom, and grandmother. What is the deal?!?!?!?!!!!!!
How am I supposed to feel free to express myself and post silly pictures knowing that my grandma is looking at them? Talk about censorship! When did this become ok? Because I dont think it is. I am no longer all about being on Facebook because you never know who is going to friend you next!
Its time to move out and find some new forums! I'm on twitter, I have a blog, and I'm contemplating a flicker account.
So long Facebook. You shall be missed

  1. I completely agree with you. I just recently became Facebook friends with my mom, aunt and uncle. At first I hated it and told my mom that it was weird for "old" people to have Facebook. Seems like it's not that weird anymore though. My roommate is also friends with her grandma on Facebook! While it is kind of annoying to censor yourself I think it might actually be a good thing. Now that we know teachers/bosses etc. can see Facebook maybe it's best that we censor ourselves.

  2. I definitely know how you feel! My mom recently added me on facebook, needless to say I wasn't exactly thrilled. But I agree that because of this it is hard to express yourself on facebook like you would regularly do.
I give you props though as annoying as it is, I couldn't part with my beloved facebook, because unfortunately im as most college students are, an adict.

  3. Its just wierd. Ive heard of friends' parents almost spying on them through facebook. Its inappropriate and creepy. If you're child wanted you to know something, they would tell you. And at this point, chances are parent's don't have much control over their 20 something child anyways. My mom recently asked me if I thought she should join to find her college/high school friends. I told her no, obviously. Mostly because I don't want her on my page and secondly because she's computer illiterate anyways.
